Burgos CF has announced the appointment of Irundarra coach Sergio Francisco as coach for the 2026/27 season. The coach will sign a one-year contract with the possibility of extending his tenure based on the achievement of objectives, according to the club's announcement. Sergio Francisco will take the reins at El Plantío after a long career in the dugout and after completing a rising trajectory within the sports structure of Real Sociedad, an entity to which he was also linked as a player until he was dismissed on December 12 after 16 games. His coaching career began at Real Unión, where he served as assistant coach to Imanol Idiakez during the 2012/13 campaign and a year later took charge of the Irundarra team before joining the Zubieta academy. In the 2017/18 season, he took charge of Real Sociedad C, a team he led for five seasons and with which he achieved promotion to Segunda RFEF, and in 2022 he took over Sanse, a team he remained with for three seasons in Primera Federación. Under his leadership, the Guipuzcoan team achieved promotion to Segunda División in 2025. His progress culminated in the 2025/26 season with his promotion to the first team of Real Sociedad and at the helm of the txuri-urdin team he directed 16 matches in Primera División. After a six-month break, the Irundarra will resume his coaching career at the helm of a Burgos team that finished the 2025/26 season in seventh place with 72 points, just missing out on the play-off spots for promotion.
